Breakfast Brief
More records for West, East is stormy

We kick off the work week with typical summer-time showers and thunderstorm chances across much of the Contiguous United States. However, some locations will remain dry and very hot. Let's dig in!

If you live anywhere in the eastern half of the lower 48, stay vigilant to the WeatherRadar, as afternoon, heat-driven showers and thunderstorms are possible in your area. The only exception is across New England, where high pressure and dry air will keep the lid on storms.

Did you know?

On this day in 2010, Southern Wisconsin experienced severe flash flooding due to heavy rainfall exceeding six inches in many areas. The intense rain overwhelmed stormwater systems, leading to widespread road closures, flooded homes, and numerous water rescues.

In the West, things continue to stay much hotter and drier. After a scorching weekend, record-breaking temperatures are likely again on Monday from the Intermountain West through the San Joaquin Valley and Desert Southwest. Many areas of the Interior Northwest will see temperatures reach the 100s again while the deserts of the southwest creep into the 110s.

Tropical update:

A low-pressure system located a few hundred miles south of the coast of southern Mexico continues to show signs of further development as it moves west-northwestward.
