Breakfast Brief
More record heat across West

Although autumn is finally making an appearance across the central U.S., the West stays summery. The east will have one more gray and showery day, but drier changes are ahead.

The WeatherRadar shows a sun-filled Wednesday from the Pacific Coast eastward across the Southwest and Rockies into the Plains, South, Midwest and Great Lakes. The only two areas of trouble will be a cold front bringing showers and rain to the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible across Florida.

On this day

In 1894, Little Rock was hit by a tornado, killing four people and demolishing several brick buildings.

The West's sun-filled Wednesday will lead to another hot one across the Southwest, interior California and southern Great Basin. More triple-digit and record-setting highs will be likely in Phoenix, and Las Vegas. The TemperatureRadar shows cooler weather across the Northwest and northern Rockies, but unseasonably hot 80s will bake Salt Lake City, Denver, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Wednesday highs across the Southwest.

Want autumn temperatures instead? Look towards the Midwest, Great Lakes and New England instead. Jackets will be needed this morning as temperatures start out in the 40s and 50s. The jackets can be shedd in the afternoon as the TempeartureRadar shows highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.

Tropical update:

The tropics are very active, and our eyes remain on a disturbance in the western Caribbean that has a medium chance of development. This area may become a tropical depression this weekend. However, if it does develop, it will have wind shear to contend with, which will damper its ability to strengthen.

We're also keeping an eye on Kirk in the Atlantic. Hurricane Kirk is expected to become a major hurricane by the end of the week but poses no immediate threat to any land. A tropical wave on the heels of Kirk has a high chance of development. These are both far from land.
