Breakfast Brief
Quiet Thursday across U.S.

The trend to quieter weather this week continues Thursday, with some places along the East Coast finally seeing some sunshine for the first time in days.

The WeatherRadar shows clear skies for most of the U.S. from the Pacific Coast eastward across the Southwest and Rockies into the Plains, South, Midwest and Great Lakes. A weak front could bring some clouds to the upper Midwest while a slow-moving front finally departs the East, but a few clouds will linger across I-95 corridor. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible across northern Florida and along the Gulf Coast.

On this day

Towns of Windsor, Windsor Locks and Suffield in Connecticut were hit by F4 tornado that caused an estimate $400M in damage.

The hot weather continues unabated across the Southwest today. More record triple-digit temperatures are likely across California's Central Valley, inland southern California, the Southwest and southern Great Basin. Phoenix, and Las Vegas will likely see record temperatures.

Wednesday highs across the Southwest.

The TemperatureRadar shows cooler weather across the Northwest, northern Rockies, northern Plains and Northeast, with highs in the 50s and 60s common. The southern Plains, South and Southeast will be in the 80s Thursday.

Tropical update:

The tropics remain active and our eyes remain locked on a system moving out of the western Gulf of Mexico and into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend. This system, as it moves into the Gulf of Mexico has a low chance of development but the cold front moving into the East might interrupt its development chances. This will need to be watched over the next several days.

We're also keeping an eye on Kirk in the Atlantic. Hurricane Kirk is expected to become a major hurricane by the end of the week but poses no immediate threat to any land. A tropical depression southeast of Kirk will continue to strengthen and become Tropical Storm Leslie today. It too could become a hurricane as it remains far from land.
