Heavy rain will continue across Texas and the Deep South this week as we monitor not only a weakening frontal boundary moving in from the north, but also the potential development of a tropical storm along the Texas Gulf Coast.

The National Hurricane Center has officially designated the low-pressure system over South Texas as Potential Tropical Cyclone One. The WeatherRadar shows a layer of clouds and rain extending along the Texas Coast. This system has a brief window to strengthen Tuesday evening into Wednesday as it moves over the warm waters of the Gulf near the Texas coast. Regardless of whether the system receives a name, portions of the Texas coast—especially southeastern Texas—as well as Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama can expect heavy rainfall that could lead to life-threatening flash flooding.

Rainfall totals between Tuesday and Friday could exceed 10 inches across parts of Louisiana and southern Alabama. Gusty winds are also expected. The WindRadar indicates wind gusts could exceed 30 mph, particularly along the coast from southeastern Texas through southern Louisiana.
