Tropical update
High chance Caribbean system to develop

Just when the tropics seemed to have been winding down, it came back to surprise us, with an area over the southwestern Caribbean with a high chance of becoming the next named system. Yes, it is mid-November! Also, parts of the East Coast will deal with some threats associated with a system that will be nearby this weekend.

The Central Caribbean is preparing to face heavy rains as a broad area of low pressure could develop into a depression late this week. Floods are possible in parts of Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. The next name on the list is Vince.

Season's fact:

It’s been a very busy season. Most of the activity has remained over the Atlantic Ocean. Two tropical storms, Harold, and Ophelia, and one hurricane, Idalia, have made landfall in the United States.

The low pressure system is not well defined yet. It will struggle a bit through Thursday. By then, it could be in better shape to become a tropical depression or storm as it drifts to the northeast, closer to Jamaica, southern Cuba, and Haiti. Strong thunderstorms will be affecting Jamaica first as the system inches closely starting on Wednesday.

Possible tropical development over the western Caribbean.Possible tropical development over the western Caribbean. Heavy rains, with a high risk of flooding and landslides over portions of the central Caribbean this week.

The central portion of the Caribbean could expect to receive between 5 to 7 inches of rain and some isolated higher amounts are possible. Gusty winds could also affect the region, but the main threat of this system, regardless of whether it becomes a named system or not, will be the rains that could lead to floods and mudslides.

Another system may develop just east of Florida and threaten parts of the East Coast from Friday through the weekend. It is possible that this system doesn’t acquire tropical characteristics, but impacts could be like one along portions of the southern and mid-Atlantic U.S. coastline.

Much-needed rain continues for Southsaber más

We will be closely monitoring for the impacts that include beach erosions, coastal flooding, and high surf. Heaviest rains, once the system moves east of Florida and drifts northeast, will be focused along the Carolinas and the coast of the Mid-Atlantic states.

We will be monitoring these systems closely and bring you prompt updates throughout the week and weekend as needed.
